
Extra creamy Sugar Free Hot Cocoa! In my opinion everyone needs a go to hot cocoa recipe that can be whipped up in just a few minutes. This one is super creamy and only requires a few basic ingredients. Its cheaper than buying the packets and you can also customize it for any dietary preferences.
For instance, right now I’m weight lifting so I used a low sugar high protein milk, but if I wanted a richer version (diet be damned) I’d opt for more heavy cream. It really is a choose your own adventure hot cocoa!
I wanted this to be a super simple Classic Hot Cocoa recipe so we’ll only be using high quality Dutch cocoa powder for the chocolate flavor.

Ingredients List: Sugar Free Hot Cocoa
Dutch Cocoa Powder – A high quality Dutch cocoa powder results in a smoother drinking experience. But feel free to use the cocoa powder you already have in your pantry.
Granulated Monk Fruit Sweetener – Adds sweetness so we can make hot cocoa without sugar
Whole Milk – I used Fair Life milk since its low in sugar. If you’re only able to get regular milk add less monk fruit sweetener
Heavy Cream – Adds a rich creamy flavor to the hot cocoa
Kosher Salt – Enhances the flavor
* Instant Coffee (Optional) – Boosts the chocolate flavor
*Vanilla Extract (Optional) – Adds to the creamy flavor of the hot cocoa
Tips For Making Sugar Free Hot Cocoa
How To Dissolve Cocoa Without Lumps – If you’ve ever added cocoa powder directly into a liquid you know how difficult it is to stir together.
The cocoa floats on top and clumps as you whisk.
To avoid this I add a small splash of milk to the dry ingredients while stirring. The cocoa will become a paste and you can smooth out any lumps before adding the rest of the milk!

Making It Extra Creamy – If you like Extra Creamy hot cocoa try blending it for a few seconds.
You’ll end up with even more of that delicious creamy foam on top. Perfect for holding marshmallows, chocolate, or heavy cream!

Never fill your blender more than half way when dealing with hot liquids!

Classic Hot Cocoa (Sugar Free)
Ingredients
- 2 Cups Fair Life Whole Milk
- 2 Tbsp Heavy Cream
- 3 Tbsp Dutch Cocoa Powder (30g)
- 3 Tbsp Granulated Monk Fruit Sweetener (40g)
- 1/4 tsp Kosher Salt
- pinch Instant Coffee
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Add cocoa powder and monk fruit sweetener to a pot. Stir with a whisk
- Slowly drizzle in milk and cream while whisking to avoid lumps
- Add remaining milk, instant coffee, and salt
- Bring to a light simmer
- Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla
- For extra frothy cocoa blend it before pouring into a mug
- Enjoy!
